As a professional forest worker, I apply my forestry occupational skills and knowledge in a way that ensures a well-managed forest, clean water, quality fish and wildlife habitat and forestry jobs for mine and future generations.

The goal of sustainable development is: “To maintain and enhance the long-term health of our forest ecosystems for the benefit of all living things, both nationally and globally, while providing environmental, economic, social and cultural opportunities for the benefit of present and future generations.”

Regarding Soil and Water best management practices in NB Forest operations, sa a professional forest worker, I apply my forestry occupational skills and knowledge in soil and water BMP’s. We install culverts, temporary crossings, and bridges; we minimize site rutting with machines, and follow regulations concerning harvesting in or near riparian zones.

Under section 12 of the Clean Water Act, if you obtain a provisional permit for harvesting you may harvest up to 30 percent of the marketable trees located within 30 meters of the edge of the bank of a water course measured Horizontally. Tree harvesting must be evenly distributed throughout the harvest area.

Under section 12 of the Clean Water Act if a Provisional Permit is issued the operator can operate the wheeled or tracked harvesting equipment within 15 meters of the edge of the bank of the watercourse.

Under section 239(5) of the NB OHS Act 91-191
” No employee shall clean, maintain, adjust or repair a machine until the employee verifies that paragraphs 4(a) and (b) have been complied with and verifies by testing that the machine is inoperative.”
