Worksafe NB Module 2 – The Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations

Workers Compensation Mandatory Coverage is required when an employer has 5 or more workers, full or part time.

Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations asserts that every worker is entitled to a safe and healthy workplace and places primary responsibility for occupational health and safety in the hands of the workers and employers.

Worksafe NB makes the following statements! ( circle all that apply)

In reference to an employees’ three basic rights, employees have the right to know all the hazards and risks associated with the job, control measures to be taken and how to report concerns!

In reference to an employees’ three basic rights, employees have the right to participate in all health and safety initiatives that can affect the safety and health of themselves and co workers!

In reference to an employees’ three basic rights, all employees have the right to refuse to do any task they have not been properly trained for and that they feel puts them at risk!

An employee’s responsibilities include: complying with the act and regulations and any written orders by Worksafe NB, ensure safe conduct, report any hazards, wear the required safety equipment and co-operate with the JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee and any Safety Officers)!

Workers Compensation Act – Chapter W-13. Administered through a no-fault insurance system. Funded by employers and in exchange, workers give up the right to sue employers from compensation and work related injuries.
